The Name Game

When my daughter was born four years ago, we hadn't found out whether or not the baby was a boy or a girl. We had picked out two names for each sex, because frankly I thought it was ridiculous to name a child you haven't even seen yet. When she was born, we both knew right away that she was a LEAH.

Now, it is naming time again. We know that we are going to have a girl and that she probably won't be coming home until sometime in 2007. Here is where I stuff my big fat foot in my mouth. We have already named her. I know, I know, I did say how silly it is to name a child before you see them but now I understand why people do it. I know, in my heart, what she looks like already. So for those of you who don't know, she will be named MAYA. There, it's down in cyber pen and ink.

My daughters Leah and Maya. Sisters Leah and Maya. I think it has a nice ring to it.

I LOVE Maya! It was on the table at our house too, until my husband decided it had to be Sophie. Those two names do have a nice ring to them too.

I had a hard time with this also. I'm not sure why. I was glad when we finally started using our daugther's name. It made her part of the family.

By the way I wanted Maya for our daughter put our last name is Meyers and Maya Meyers was a little much. So.....I love the name. It sounds nice with her big sister's name. Good Choice!!!

Wow! Congratulations!! We had MM's name picked out a good three years before she actually became a reality, so I'm a believer. ;)

Love it. I can't seem to settle on a name. I think I would if I could, but I guess something is holding me back. I'm trying to trust that one of our names will make sense when we finally meet her but part of me is, like - what if we're staring at her and running down our mental list and STILL nothing seems right? Oh how we drive ourselves crazy ...:)

For some reason having a name was important for us. We had lots of them at first but quickly landed on Lila. When we saw her face for the first time, oddly, she looked like Lila.

Maya and Leah....nice.

We had Eva's name all picked out... she was to be, "MaryEva" but then when I referral arrived and we saw her name was "Wan Jun (June)"we modified it some... she is officially "Mary EvaJun"...

Maya is a beautiful name. It will be beautiful written, too. . And Leah is becoming one of my favorite names.

Leah is a stunningly beautiful child, by the way.

I love that name. Both of them actually.

We had our kids' names picked out before we were even married. Nothing silly about it at all in my book.

I agree with all the comments above. Maya is timeless, lovely, feminine and strong. IMO, these were the most important traits we wanted for our daughter's name too.

When we finally settled on a name it was a real relief - we didn't find it easy to choose on a name for either of our kids. Isn't it great to finally decide? Great choice AND it goes well with Leah.

BTW, your daughter Leah is beautiful. Give her an extra hug from me :)

I love the name Maya but don't do what I did. Decide your going to name your kid Alexandria and then look at her and say "she doesn't look like and Alex" and then name her Vanessa. How's that for naming in advance?
