Just in time for cooler weather...

Got in some knitting time recently and made this poncho for Leah. I used the Downtown Tot Poncho pattern from Lion Brand and Leah picked out their Color Waves yarn in the Pebble Beach color. This was the easiest poncho pattern I could find. I hope to move on to something a bit more sophisticated for next year's poncho!

Did someone say cashmere?

OK, I took the plunge. Based on all the encouragement I received in my previous post entitled "I am very afraid" I have started knitting a sweater for my daughter-to-be. This is what the sweater SHOULD look like when I am through. After dropping a ton of cash at my local yarn store, I came home and started working on the back piece. It is currently about 10 inches long (I need to get to 13 1/2 " before this piece is finished). Then it is on to the front, the hood and then the two sleeves.

The yarn, believe it or not, is called cashmerino aran and is a blend of 55% Merino wool, 33% Microfibre and 12% CASHMERE. Yes, you heard me right - cashmere. I don't even have any cashmere in my closet, and yet my kid will be nice and snuggly in her hand made cashmere sweater. Isn't it supposed to be the other way around? Know wonder this stuff was so damn expensive!

I will post when more of the sweater is finished. Oh, and if I hit any major snags, then I will be holding the following people personally responsible for encouraging me to do this in the first place - Lisa, Dalian Moon, Jen, Viv, Eileen, Lisa, Donna, Katie J, & Lisa! :)

Knit one, Purl two

I took up knitting as a hobby shortly after my daughter was born and have since been knitting scarves till the cows come home. My first scarf, for my husband, came out so uneven because I dropped a few stitches as I went along. We still keep that scarf so we can have a good laugh once in a while. I have recently moved into the more complicated hat pattern and have one successfully finished and sitting in my drawer. My mother-in-law is an expert knitter and can make an adult sweater, in some very complicated pattern, overnight - I kid you not!

The two above (one still in progress) will be for my daughter's preschool teachers. They are two wonderful women and I wanted to show them my appreciation for taking such good care of my daughter while at school. I am almost finished with the second scarf, which is made out of fun fur, and plan on giving it to them on Valentine's Day.
